PCPR is a home based, non-profit, no-kill organization dedicated to saving and helping unwanted, neglected and mistreated exotics. What are exotics?Exotics are animals that are not livestock, dogs or cats. They are smaller animals like birds, reptiles, small mammals (guinea pigs, chinchillas, hamsters, etc.) and aquatics. We have been doing rescue work for close to 3 years now, since January 2007, and have had much success on helping animals and finding permanent homes for them.We are located in Houston, TX & we WILL NOT ship. If you are interested in adopting, please view our Adopting Page.
How we started:
We began after a friend gave us their parakeet that they no longer wanted. This sweet bird (Who's name was Cuddles) passed away a few months after.
Then realizing that there were many homeless animals out there, we decided to open our hearts to more animals that are in need of homes.
This organization is a memory of Cuddles, who live on in our hearts forever.
Animals we take in:
Birds- canaries/finches-small parrots (quaker/conure size)
Reptiles- non-venomous, (no snakes)
Small Animals- guinea pigs, hedgehogs, degus, hamsters, gerbils, chipmunks
Aquatics- hermit crabs and fresh water fish (beta fish, goldfish, etc.)**Note: we will accept some other exotics as long as you are able to foster them until they are adopted. Here are some animals we can accept:**
-Mice
-Rats
-Rabbits (as long as they are spayed or neutered and have had a vet check in the past year)
-Chinchillas (as long as they have had a vet check in the past year)
Animals we don't take in:
-Dogs
-Cats
-Snakes, large or venomous reptiles
- Congos, Macaws, Cockatoos, or similar sized birds.
-Livestock
-Sugar Gliders
-FerretsNote: Call us for other rescue recommendations
Giving up a pet
One thing you want consider before giving your animal to a shelter:
Is it a no-kill shelter?
Are there dogs at this shelter?
Will the shelter try it's best to place the animal in a suitable home or just the first home that comes along?
Shelters are very loud and can very stressing for a pet.
Shelters are also very busy and have many other animals to take care of and feed.
Our rescue is a foster based organization, so your animal will get lots of attention and love. Precious Critters is a no-kill rescue group and we have an adoption process to complete to insure that our animals only go to the very best of homes.
We also keep in contact with our adopters to see how the animal is doing.

FAQ
Q: Do you have to give a donation when giving up an animal?
A: It is not necessary, but much appreciated. We would also appreciate any supplies that might come along with the animal.
Q: Do you ship your animals?
A: No. For the safety of our animals we do not ship.
Q: I do not live in the Houston area, can I still adopt?
A: No, currently we can not allow adoptions out side of Houston and vicinity. But, we'd love to help you find a rescue organization near you.
Q: Why do you even charge at all, aren't these animals rescues?
A: Yes, the majority of these animals were rescues or owner surrenders. The adoption fee, while
never enough to recoup our costs helps in the ongoing needs, including but not limited to
vet care, of these specialized animals.
